Detailing of towers using 3-D software
The most important aspects in installation of towers are the detailing of towers. There are many design packages available for the analysis and design of towers. Hence with a little bit of trial and error methods one could achieve a reasonable optimum design of towers. But it is the detailing which plays an important role in the overall tower installation. As tower assembly and erection involve only bolted connection of individual members, the following important aspects are required:
- Accurate length of members developed drawings
- Connection of individual members for rigid connections
- Arrangement of location of splices, for easy transportation , assembly and erection
- Connection of all other members with main members(legs) through direct or through gussets
- No force fitting of members which will introduce additional stresses
- Location of ladders (both cable and climbing) and access to platforms
- Overall safety of tower in terms of tightening and verticality
